The 15 Hottest Songs Of 2012

The 15 Hottest Songs Of 2012

There was plenty of great music in 2012, and now it’s about that time to take a look back at the hottest offerings from the past year. Keep in mind this is simply our opinion of what we feel were the hottest songs this year, the ones we played the most. This is not necessarily a BEST OF list, so don’t get things twisted. If you disagree us that’s cool, just make sure to drop your own list in the comment section and let us know!

Continue reading below as we breakdown our favorite songs of 2012.

Future - Turn On The Lights

Future - Turn On The Lights

Future really came out of no where this past year. He's been grinding for a while now, but his name came into the spotlight in a big way during 2012. Future served us with a number of hits, but none more surprising than "Turn On The Lights" where he showed that he can step away from making bangers and make an R&B tune. Nobody expected it to take off like it did, but then again nobody expected Future to take off in general.

Juicy J - Bands A Make Her Dance (Feat. Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)

Juicy J - Bands A Make Her Dance (Feat. Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)

Juicy J has been dropping tons of music these past couple of years, but no song even comes close to "Bands A Make Her Dance". So big that 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne quickly jumped on the track, and thus Juicy J pushed it as the official version. If this song ain't make you want to slap some females around with some money, no song will.

Meek Mill - Amen (Feat. Drake & Jeremih)

Meek Mill - Amen (Feat. Drake & Jeremih)

Meek Mill dropped hits in 2011, and 2012 would be no different. "Amen" would turn out to be Meek's most notable song of the year, with some help from Drake & Jeremih. Originally appearing on his Dream Chasers 2 mixtape, the song quickly became a fan favorite and thus was pushed as his first official single for his debut album. This is one jam that has yet to get old.

2 Chainz - Birthday Song (Feat. Kanye West)

2 Chainz - Birthday Song (Feat. Kanye West)

2012 was the year of 2 Chainz. He's on your favorite artist's song, and your 2nd favorite artist. He came with a handful of hits himself though, one of those being the Kanye West assisted "Birthday Song". This jam birthed two of the most recited lines this year, "She got a big booty, so I call her big booty", and "All I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe". Hey we never said he was a wordsmith, but I'll be damned if we don't want a big booty hoe on deck after we open our presents.

Kanye West - Cold (Feat. DJ Khaled)

Kanye West - Cold (Feat. DJ Khaled)

On the day this song dropped, everybody stopped what they were doing to listen. It was one of those "Wait, Yeezy's back" moments where all other music was put aside, and this was put on repeat for hours. With lines like "Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor", and his shots at Kim's ex-husband Kris Humphries with "Lucky I ain't have Jay drop him from the team", this song quickly became the best song out at the moment.

A$AP Rocky - Fuckin' Problem (Feat. 2 Chainz, Drake, & Kendrick Lamar)

A$AP Rocky - Fuckin' Problem (Feat. 2 Chainz, Drake, & Kendrick Lamar)

"I love bad bitches that's my fuckin' problem, and yeah I like to fuck I got a fuckin' problem." That line alone says enough, but let's look at the lineup for this song. You've four of the hottest names in the game on one song, we already knew it was going to be a "fuckin' problem" (no pun intended) before we even heard this joint. Let's just say, they didn't disappoint.

Trinidad Jame$ - All Gold Everything

Trinidad Jame$ - All Gold Everything

Trinidad Jame$, who's only been rapping for about a year, recently burst onto the scene with one of the biggest bangers of the year by the name of "All Gold Everything". Despite the song being out for awhile prior, it really gained traction after he released the accompanying video. This song is responsible for one of the hottest lines of the year, "Popped a molly I'm sweating, WOO!" ...yeah you've heard it.

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools

Kendrick Lamar owned much of 2012, dropping what many are calling a classic album with good kid, m.A.A.d city. The most successful song from that album is the "Swimming Pools" joint by far, which shows that Kendrick can make a catchy song while still being lyrical unlike a lot of emcees today. Aside from all of that, the original post of this song here on HFHH is our most viewed post in site history. Thanks Kendrick!

Chief Keef - Love Sosa

Chief Keef - Love Sosa

Chief Keef is another rapper that took over 2012, out of no where dropping some of the most ignorant music we've heard in a long time. "Love Sosa" is his most recent single from his debut album, Finally Rich, and one of our favorite bangers of the year. Every line in this song is a quotable, for the pure authentic ignorance alone. Chief Keef breaks all the "rules" of Hip Hop, but we don't mind.

2 Chainz - No Lie (Feat. Drake)

2 Chainz - No Lie (Feat. Drake)

2 Chainz makes another appearance with his biggest hit of the year, "No Lie", which was accompanied by a 16 from Drake. Having Drake on your song this year pretty much means you were going to have a hit, but that's not to take anything away from 2 Chainz who came with more memorable lines, and Mike Will who came with another great beat as well.

French Montana - Pop That (Feat. Rick Ross, Drake, & Lil Wayne)

French Montana - Pop That (Feat. Rick Ross, Drake, & Lil Wayne)

If you asked me to find one thing wrong with this song, outside of that one Wayne "Trukfit" line that we all hate, I wouldn't be able to. The Uncle Luke sample, the beat, the verses, the ad-libs, all on point. Drake steals the show as he did all year, but everybody came correct on this one. At some point of the year you've enjoyed the fuck out of this song in the club or in the whip, don't deny it.

G.O.O.D. Music - Clique (Feat. Jay-Z)

G.O.O.D. Music - Clique (Feat. Jay-Z)

Big Sean, Kanye West, and Jay-Z over a Hit-Boy instrumental, not really much could go wrong here. Last time Yeezy & Hov were on a Hit-Boy beat, "Niggas In Paris", yeah you know what happened. While "Clique" doesn't quite surpass the Watch The Throne joint, it's just about the next best thing. This one is still rising on the charts, and doesn't look to come down soon. A visual has yet to even be shot!

Chief Keef - I Don't Like (Feat. Lil Reese)

Chief Keef - I Don't Like (Feat. Lil Reese)

"I Don't Like" is the song that shot Chicago emcee Chief Keef into stardom. It's simple, it's to the point, and it sends the message perfectly. Sometimes less is more, and that's the case here. Chief Keef & producer Young Chop captured something we haven't seen since Waka Flocka & Lex Luger from 2009-2010. Keef & Chop took it one step further, proving to be the leaders of the new trap generation. This song later went out to be remixed by fellow Chicago emcee Kanye West, and his G.O.O.D. Music camp. The rest is history.

Rick Ross - Stay Schemin (Feat. Drake & French Montana)

Rick Ross - Stay Schemin (Feat. Drake & French Montana)

This song dropped at the top of the year on Rick Ross' Rich Forever mixtape, and this still stands just as strong as the day it was dropped. "Stay Schemin" was the standout track by a mile, and is even better than anything on his later released album God Forgives, I Don't. The song features Drake, who took shots at Common throughout his entire verse, that would later result in the softness beef of all time. But forget about all of that, one line can sum everything up: "BITCH YOU WASN'T WITH ME SHOOTING IN THE GYM!"

G.O.O.D. Music - Mercy

G.O.O.D. Music - Mercy

Was there any other choice for #1? Absolutely not. This song dominated all of 2012, whether or not you tried to deny it, it won you over. This song changed 2 Chainz' career, took Big Sean to the next level, put the slang term "thirsty" on the map, and proved once again that Kanye only hits homeruns. It was a G.O.O.D. year indeed.

This list was alright. Love Sosa shouldn’t have been on there and maybe replaced by another Kendrick Lamar or A$AP joint
